Recommend a Documentary
Been a while since we've had one of these, and the nights are drawing in, so I need something new to watch.

A few to get things going..

"Cold War" (1998) Series made by the same people who did 'The World at War'. Covers the period from 1945 to 1991. This is episode 1, the same person's put up all the other episodes too..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SuSbJ-zlos

"To Mars by A-Bomb: The Secret History of Project Orion" (2002) BBC film about the Cold War era plan to build an ocean liner-sized spaceship, propelled by endless external nuclear explosions. Fascinating from start to finish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znmZeEycRwE

"Reggae" (1971) Film about the 1970 Wembley reggae festival. Live clips, interviews, etc. If you like old ska/reggae you'll love it.

I love watching My 600 pound life anyone fatter than me deserves to be watched, HA.
Anything by Michael Moore is pretty decent, depending though on your political persuasion .
I also enjoy prison docs.
Stranded, from what i have read you are slightly too intelligent for the silly mickey mouse stuff i watch though.

The man who swims with crocodiles - http://youtu.be/I7fZZUfvx0s

Bloody huge croc swims and plays with a bloke who saved it from death 23 years ago. He probably shags it.

Wouldn't have thought this was possible til I watched it.
I'm considering having a bromance with a great white shark

Re: Recommend a Documentary
Cheers fellas! Haven't seen quite a few of those, so I'll take a look.

Zeb. All those Adam Curtis series are great! Power of Nightmares, The Century of Self, The Trap etc. Saw them when they were on, but still watch them every now and again.

Miike. Just had to look that up to make sure it was real! Think I'll be watching that one quite soon. Saw that Werner Herzog was involved with it. He did a really good series called "On Death Row" where he interviews people waiting to be executed in US prisons. I haven't seen all of them, but the episode about the 'Texas Seven' was really good.

If you like Prison documentaries, watch Russia's Toughest Prisons and the first 15 minutes is based around the infamous Black Dolphin.

Worth a watch.

OK mate I will not. But i have never watched a War Documentary in my life because they take a touch of intelligence to sit through definitely the ones you watched anyway that is why I made that judgement.

Whoa! Hold on there matey - if that statement holds true you've just ranked me alongside Steven Hawkins...at least in the Strictly Come Dancing League. Some of the greatest enjoyment can come from a documentary about a subject you feel is beyond you.

I'm watching World At War now...well, not exactly NOW, but I'm working through the series (Episode 12 at the moment) and would echo the sentiments of anyone who says it's worth the time spent: war is definitely NOT one of my favourite subjects but this set of programs is almost THE definitive word and certainly provides some convenient anchors & reference points.

As to Docs worth a gander? Almost any Horizon, althow a few are so flaky bits fall off in lumps but when they're good nothing can match them.

The BBC's History of the Universe/Solar System ar a good couple of sets and for anoraks there are a few old BR films available for download..

Re: Recommend a Documentary
There is (possibly) a 'documentary' still on youtube maybe, from BBC4, all about Fetherstone Rovers and their rugby league history.

Don't like rugby or Yorkshire, but it's a fucking brilliant half hour of television.
